Down and Out in Denver

Rick Griffith, Denver's Letterpress Impresario

  • This week’s Westword features a glimpse into the world of Rick Griffith, a graphic artist and typographer who’s the driving force behind Denver’s MATTER studio.
  • Warhol in Colorado opens at the University of Denver’s Victoria H. Myhren gallery on January 20th. The exhibition is structured around 158 Polaroids and silver prints given to the University of Denver in 2008 by the Warhol Foundation. The show will also feature photos of Warhol and ephemera from his visits to Colorado in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
  • Looking to show off some fancy footwork this weekend? Check out Disco Nouveau with residents Mike Disco and the adorable Tyler Snow this Friday at Beauty Bar (608 East 13th, Second Fridays, Free).
  • The Denver Post reports Saks Fifth Avenue will close its Cherry Creek location on March 19th. I recall only purchasing one article of clothing from Denver’s Saks. I was never impressed by its selection… or its service. Blake and I could easily round up suggestions to help fill the 87,000 square feet of space. H&M, Club Monaco, and Zara, to name just a few. (via gayzette)

Longtime reader, first time poster, frequent participant… May the retail gods bless us with a Bloomingdales or a Barney’s at Cherry Creek. Although I’m not going to hold my breath. Although there’s a rumor that they will split the space up — we shall see.
